Rick Perry will return to Iowa this weekend to headline an event in Des Moines.
The newly minted presidential candidate will join Reps. Ron Paul and Thaddeus McCotter and former New York Gov. George Pataki in speaking Saturday at the Polk County Republican Party's annual summer picnic at the state fairgrounds.
Polk County encompasses the city of Des Moines, giving the event significant reach with Republicans in the area. Co-chair Dave Funk said prior to Perry's addition that the party was expecting between 150 and 200 guests. With the Texas governor -- now a front-runner nationally and in Iowa -- added to the slate of speakers, that number should increase.
Since joining the race two weeks ago, Perry has spent three days in Iowa on one trip, and he's hit the other early voting states of South Carolina and New Hampshire twice. The coming trip this weekend will mark his second to Iowa.
