Meek to Focus on Base Turnout in General Election

Meek to Focus on Base Turnout in General Election

By Erin McPike - August 26, 2010

Florida Democratic Rep. Kendrick Meek spent the day after his primary victory in the Senate race traveling the state and calling up donors, political organizers and reporters in an attempt to show that he's the hardest-working candidate in the race.

In an interview late Wednesday, Meek said, "The next 69 days are strict GOTV."

He made clear that he will focus on the Democratic base in the closing days of the election, as two of the four issues he said he plans to highlight are abortion and the environment.

"I'm the only candidate for United States Senate in this race who supports a woman's right to choose," he said.

Meek also said he plans to campaign with Democratic gubernatorial candidate Alex Sink and two embattled Democratic House incumbents, Alan Grayson and Suzanne Kosmas.
