KERRY'S BIG SECRET?: That
wasn't so hard, now was it? The mind simply reels at the possibility
that Kerry refused for two years to fully release his Navy records
because he didn't want people to know he
got slightly lower grades at Yale than Bush. Could the ego
on a man really be that big and that fragile? Unless Kerry is
a masochist who was intent on losing the presidential race I would
think there has to be another explanation, though I don't have
a clue what it might be. Nevertheless, two years late and with
barely any help from the mainstream press, all of Kerry's military
records finally appear to be in public view.
RECRUITING
NEWS: We've seen lots of stories
recently about the recruiting troubles of the U.S. military. So
here is a bit of encouraging news from a
new Gallup Youth Survey asking about future career choices:
Meanwhile,
the military, which remains short of its recruiting goals for
the year, might be able to make up some of its numbers during
high school graduation season. A military career consistently
is named as one of the top possibilities for boys, but this
is the first time it's been on the list of girls' choices.
Frankly,
I'm surprised by these results not only because we are in the
middle (or perhaps beginning) of a protracted, difficult war which
undoubtedly makes recruiting harder, but also because of the despicable
way our military is routinely treated on campuses and vilified
in the press.
In other
words, treat people in the military like this:

And
you're bound to get headlines like this: "Big
Drop in Seattle for Army Recruits." The Gallup Youth
Survey suggests high school kids today aren't fazed by any of
this stuff. I certainly hope that's the case - T. Bevan
