Tea Partier Crazies Want U.S. to Default

Like most Americans, I've remained confident that the richest country in the world — that's us, by the way — would never actually default on its debt.

There are many reasons for believing this. For one thing, defaulting would be, well, stupid. It would also be costly, irrational, unethical, counterproductive and entirely unnecessary. It would be less a political or economic statement than it would be a temper tantrum.
