Nearly 3-1/2 hours after the hearings began, dominated by comments from the Judiciary Committee members who will be Kagan's inquisitors for the next week, Kagan got her say. Her 12-minute opening statement, which closed the day's proceedings, were her first public comments since May 10, when President Obama named her as his second Supreme Court nominee.
